Hiring a Wedding Planner- Yay or Nay?

Apr 7, 2022

Hiring a wedding planner can make wedding planning a lot less stressful and a lot more enjoyable. Your wedding day is naturally one of the best days of your life. It’s the culmination of all the things that represent you as a couple. But making that dream wedding happen requires coordination of many moving parts. There are vendors to hire, contracts to review, tastings to attend… Hiring someone to help organize and communicate is one of the best choices you could make.

1. Wedding planners have done this before.

Chances are you and your fiancé haven’t planned a wedding before. Some brides feel confident that they can plan their own weddings because they’ve helped a sister or best friend plan theirs, but planning your own wedding is very different. There is a different level of emotion and responsibility when it’s your own. Hiring a professional wedding planner means you’ll have someone to guide you through this intricate process, someone who’s done this not once or twice but tens to hundreds of times.

2. The wedding planning stress will get to you.

Planning a wedding is harder than it looks. If you’re already amassing a giant to-do list, hiring a wedding planner can make the entire process much more manageable and enjoyable. You should be excited about your big day, not stressed and tearful.

3. You don’t know all the costs involved in wedding planning.

A professional wedding planner can offer you great insights on industry norms, trends, and expectations. They know which vendors will give you their best and which to avoid. They’ll help you identify and avoid hidden costs, stick to your budget. Sometimes planners also have access to industry discounts they can pass on to you.

4. You need a planning push start.

A wedding planner will help you get the ball rolling so that you can start making all the important decisions. They’ll help bring your vision together and put you in touch with vendors and suppliers who can help bring your day to life. They’ll keep you on track with your planning timeline and won’t let you fail the whole wedding planning thing.

5. You’re under the impression that your photographer will help with the planning.

Yes, a photographer will give you guidance on the timing but won’t be assisting you with any other coordination or wedding planning. Your photographer will be able to tell you what time to start getting ready, how much time they’ll need for family shots, and the best time for portraits. But they won’t be available to assist with clearing of the reception hall for décor shots, moving décor from the ceremony to venue location, bustling your dress before you make your grand entrance at the reception, or making sure that the men’s boutonnieres are pinned on properly. A wedding planner is there to make sure that your photographer can do their job on your wedding day.
